VISION
The Development Committee of Orissa State Badminton Association has prepared the “OSBA Vision 2020 -24” with a detailed blueprint to upgrade the sport of badminton in the state and have a conducive badminton environment for development. The Blueprint Vision 2020-24, an ambitious plan to broad base and raise the bar of badminton in Odisha details many key components which the Orissa State Badminton Association will emphasize upon in a structured, realistic and practical manner in an attempt to elevate and popularise the sport.
It is a fact that Badminton has grown phenomenally in India and in Odisha it is still a rising sport. Few of our shuttlers have performed exceptionally well and have represented India and many are gradually doing good and are reaching National levels. The next few years will be crucial to scout talent and nurture them.
With the Government giving extra focus to sports, Odisha has the potential to be among the upcoming top Badminton States in India, Late Shri Sanath Mishra, a multiple time National Champion has shown the way and currently Rutaparna Panda who is representing India in Women’s Doubles & Mixed Doubles event is taking the legacy forward and inspiring all youngsters.
The Development Agenda gives a sense of purpose and direction to the Mission Odisha Badmintion (Vision 2020-24). OSBA’s principal focus in next four years will be to develop the sport from block level of the districts, Coaching and Player development programmes, Coaches Training Programmes and Technical Official assessment programmes will be the main stay of OSBA’s efforts.
Apart from the ambitious feeder centres plans in all Zones to generate a pool of talented players for the SAI Centre and upcoming Gopichand High Performance Centre at Bhubaneswar, the Blueprint highlights several other key components. AirBadminton, a new format launched globally by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in 2019, played in an outdoor area, lawn or beach, will be an added attractive feature to popularize the game in blocks and coastal areas.
The Development Agenda has many more short terms as well as long term objectives. Inclusive participation which presents badminton as an inclusive sport for all, Enhancing Fan Base & Stakeholder engagement, Partnerships with Private and Corporate structures, School level development and Fund raising being few more of them.
In addition, there are few other components and commissions which will be created for boosting Workshops and Clinics, Technical Officer’s Development, Communications & Public Relations, Awards & Recognitions, School Games, etc. The domestic tournament structure will also see a revamp with a Under 11 categories included at State Level, apart from District and Block level activities with localised version of AirBadminton.
“The Development Agenda provides a blueprint upon which badminton will be nurtured and promoted over the period from 2020- 24 and this will set a benchmark for the future as well. We may not be able to launch all of these plans at the ground level immediately due to the current pandemic. However, there are many areas where we can begin work on and build a strong base through which badminton can rise, thrive and turn into a sports revolution in Odisha. To achieve our objectives, we will work hand in hand with our parent body Badminton Association of India, Department of Youth & Sports Services of Odisha, Khelo India & Department of School and Mass Education of Odisha and invite all stake holders to play a part in the progress of badminton in Odisha”
